Heated seats - retrofit possible?
 

Anyone know if it is possible to intall the heating elements without replacing the entire seats? I hate having those two cute button locations without heated seats to go along with them!

Seems to me, and I've never seen the underside of a heated seat mind you, that there should just be a heating element that goes under the seat, and wires back to a high current relay, two I guess to acheive the Porsche two-step heating sequence. But I don't find anything about this in the archives. Might be a wrecker item?

it's probably easiest to swap out the seats & add the relay, harness & switches. i do have instructions on how to do a retrofit to non-heated seats (it IS possible). i'll try to dig them up & post them.

You can swap out the seat foam, and run all the wiring, but it will be easiest and most cost effective to just swap seats. I have done this myself, its actually not that difficult.

You might be better off to look into an aftermarket kit, then wire it with the OEM switches, to the switched 12V power under the center console. It may not be OEM, but you could probably do it for less that $300 or so, vs., $2000. :cheers:

ah, you beat me to it. i thought i had that link saved, but apparently not.....

dont swap out the seats and spend thousands! thats crazy, I've used aftermarket seats on my box and my viper from http://www.heaterseats.com/ they work great

yeah I agree get after market heat elements. Pull the seats have them installed by a upholster. Then go find a good 12v installer and have them wire up to OEM switch. That would have to be the best looking way and the cheapest. Or just use their switch or search at radio shack for ones you like. I used to do this at a shop. Just find the sunroof installer type people and they will do it all for around $350-$500.
