1998 Boxster S w/ Engine transplant.. good buy? link inside

Hello,

I talked to a dealer who says he has a 1998 boxster S for sale... he says in 2007 the car had a engine transplant from a 2002 boxster S.. The price is good... but the dealer feels a bit dodgy... he says it's also had a respray and guarantees that it's accident free...

Is there anyway I can check the manufacture date of the motor?

I live in Korea and Porsche prices are rediculous.. and this one is really priced right... here's a link below.. what does everyone think?

As a forner used Porsche dealer, I say with respect,

Be afraid, be very afraid.

If it is accident free why has it been sprayed? Brucelee is giving you sage advise, I'd take it and keep looking.

My two cents:
Look at pic 2, where the hood meets the bumper cover. Something doesn't line up there. Considering the time and money used to turn a base into an S they couldn't take the extra time to line that up? Could it be that it won't line up? They certainly didn't bother with the front trunk liner. That would kill it for me before even seeing the apparent tough life the interior had...
That was my 2 cents.
My advice? Listen to Brucelee.

There is NO 1998 Boxster S. The 'S' model didn't debut until 2000.

To add a 3.2 Ltr. Boxster S engine to a '98 chassis, you'd need a new wiring harness, new DME, new Fuel system incl. Tank, Pump, Filter, Lines, Fuel Rail, Injectors, exhaust.

I wouldn't go anywhere near this car - too many Red Lights!

The dealer's wrong. This is an S model from 2000-2002, it was never a base car. It's got the S gauges and bezels, the S brakes, the S exhaust, the S chromed bits and a 6-speed. It's also got the air intake lip added to the 2000 MY. I like the seats. Have him give you the VIN and look it up to find what model year the car is ACTUALLY from.

There is a picture of the tag in the driver door, it's a '00s according to that. If the title sats otherwise I would run like hell..
