pca track rules
Did I misunderstand or do you need a aftermarket seat and harness to compete at a track day event. what else don't I know about pca.Does a seat and harness install easily for the weekend?

Contact the PCA chair person responsible for DEs in your region.
The Milwaukee region allows stock seat belts and seats to be used in the Novice and 1 st run groups. I suspect most PCA DE events allow this. Which MI region are you in? http://www.pca.org/regions/regions.asp?Zone=4 |
I was thinking of joining the Chicago region. It gave me another chance at the same tracks as my N.A.S.A. region. This being my second year at racing, trying to memorize individual layouts is tough, seeing them once a year. Any other advice about pca, for a newbie?

As mentioned, check with your local PCA chapter/region first.
Over the winter, PCA has "uped" their minimum guidelines and it does impact some folks seating arrangements. However, for Drivers Ed events, there seems to be ONE consistency - Stock Factory Seats with Factory 3 pt belts are allowed. The real issue is for folks who want to use racing seatbelt "harnesses". The harnesses do NOT work properly with factory porsche seats (factory GT3 seats notwithstanding) due to the built in headrest that prohibits the shoulder harnesses from fitting properly. Thus, at a minimum, regions require certain types of seats be used in conjunction with harnesses. They often require "like set up" for driver and passenger. They also require belts to be installed according to the manufacturers guidelines on angle of belt and use of seat holes for routing the belts. |
There has also been a lot of talk about banning convertables.....
I cannot pass the broomstick test without a helmet, so I have not been able to use my 986 at our DEs, so it will make no difference to me. I was running a 924S for DEs, cheap and fun! In a moment of weakness, I sold it. |
Paul please clarify with out a helmet? I thought you had to be under the stick to pass tech.

And another thing .... A roll bar extension. Depending on your height (seated) and the thickness of your helmet, you may have to install a roll bar extension (by Brey-Krause, $695). In fact some tracks, VIR for one, and I believe some regions also, make it mandatory.
Welcome to the wonderful world of DE. Art |
