Squeeking sound with top down

Hi Everyone.
New to the Forum. Just purchased a 2000 Boxster with 30,500 miles. Great car!
With the top down, I hear a squeeking sound near the area where the top is folded in the body close to the drivers side seat. The sound only occurs when I drive over a bump and does not occur when the top is up. Any suggestions?

Thanks Eric

When the top's down turn the radio louder.

Confession: I got some help from Tom & Ray on this one. :D

(Someone else will probably be able to help you on this, since I obviously cannot.)

That's a needle in a haystack, unfortunately. You're somewhat on your own. I had something similar that ended up being a wire rubbing against the plastic panel that covers the seat belt on the driver's side of the interior. Squeaking commonly comes from the windstops but there are so many places that you really just have to search it down, take the parts off and add felt to the offender.

Is it a squeaking (like something rubbing, high pitched) or just a sound in general?

My Boxster will make slight sounds driving over bumps too. The only real fix, that I have found is to install braces, and/or an ernie bar. I haven't done that yet, but a few people have noted that they decrease the noise you may hear driving over bumps by stiffening the frame.

Thanks for the responses

Thanks all for the responses. The squeeking sound is more like someone jumping up and down on an old spring mattress. Not like a rubbing sound. I will try spraying the braces of the top with a silicon spray to see what that does.

Let you know what I find.

Most importantly is I love my Boxster. Should have purchased one a long time ago.

Eric
