Question about muffler removal
 

I have searched here and on renntech but I can't seem to find a muffler removal DIY. Is there one out there or can anyone point me to one? It is for a 2001 Base model.

I found a muffler place that will install the bypass pipes that mimic the Porsche Sport Exhaust (Pedro Sport Exhaust.) The guy said he has done many custom exhaust fabrications on all kinds of cars but not a Boxster. He will do the work for around $130 but I want to give him the instructions so he doesn't charge me an extra hour trying to figure out how to get it off.

Another question, do you think he could do the work just by dropping the rear bumper?

with the rear bumper off, the muffler removal is very straight forward. and he should have NO problems. its VERY obvious.

I swapped the exhaust on my old 01S, Bumper NOT removed.

When swapping out my muffler, I took my car to the dealership. There was no need to remove the bumper.

Bumper can stay in place, top hanger would be tough on your back but not unachievable. Keep in mind the clamps are splined and must be pried apart after removal of the nut/bolt.

The shop is a muffler repair shop so the car will be on a lift, so I assume it will be pretty straight forward to him once he gets it in the air? He said he has fabbed up exhausts on everything from 1930's antiques to modern race cars, so hopefully he's pretty competent in that dept.

The bypass pipes are a great option for more sound and keeping the OEM quality muffler. I removed the rear bumper cover when installing mine; it really isn't difficult or time consuming.
