Continues Oil Leak
So its been about three weeks now since i've first noticed an oil leak. After getting under the car, i realized that it was my oil filter cap that was loose, so i tightened it.
Just two days later, there was some leakage again. Throughout the next two weeks i tried to tighten it each time, only to find it leaking again. I finally took the whole filter cap off, cleaned it along with the filter, and refitted it back on. I made it as tight as my hands could possible tighten it. Any clue what i might being doing wrong? Is it not tight enough?. When i pulled off the cap in the first place, it was filled with oil, just wondering if that was normal. THanks!! |
hey man, try to tighten it with a filter wrench. i forget the size, but do a search and i know it's posted somewhere. the only other thing i can think of is the o-ring on the top of the filter cap. usually a new one comes with the filter. i'd try those two thing...replace the o-ring and tighten the cap with a wrench.

I would check the o-ring as Stephen said.
Fortunately it's more of "pain in the ass" type of problem than one you'll lose sleep over. |
Yea i wanted to replace the oil filter and i bought a bosch one from kragen auto parts. They gave me the right box but the wrong filter. Do they even make one for the boxster? i hate kragen now, Autozone is better and cheaper.

Don't forget to torque the oil drain plug to 37 ft-lbs and the oil filter housing to 19ft-lbs.
