Passenger side airbag question

It's my understanding that the passenger side airbag can be disengaged. I have also heard though that the seat senses if there is weight on the seat and if there isn't the airbag will not deploy. What I am curious about is, if this is the case, will my 8-pound dog be heavy enough to cause it to deploy in an accident? The reason I ask is I just ordered her a car harness to wear when I take her places and I'm trying to figure out the safest way for her to ride. I used to ride her in a crate but from what I read this harness is safer. The airbags will be a problem though if they go off. Any input would be appreciated.

It takes 70-80 lbs. on the seat for the passenger side system to activate.

Cool. Thanks.

You might want to check if this applies to your car. If I am not mistaken, this only applies to model years 06 and newer. My '05 doesn't work like this and needs a special part to deactivate the airbag if I want to put in a car-seat for my daughter. There are a few threads on this - it isn't cheap...

Maybe someone who knows more than me can comment on this?

I'm getting an '08, so if that's the case I'll be fine. Still anxiously awaiting my car's arrival.
