where and what can be done to 986 like this?

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118612

im reffering to the gt3 bumper grille that people are installing on their 987.
the cost is only $25 from the dealer, i really like how that looks, it does involve cutting the front bumper.
the shape is obviously different then the 986, but is there a gt3 grille for 986, or something of this nature, and where can it be found?

6speed members car in that thread as well

$25 from a dealer? I'd have thought the box it came in would cost $25 from a dealer.

djomlas, I saw the same thread on 6speed and was wondering the same thing. One of the keys to the grille they're putting on the 987 and Cayman is that it's got a small lip all of the way around the edge. With that lip you can cut a smaller hole in the bumper, mount the grille from the top, and thus cover up your imperfect cut marks with the lip of the grille. After looking at a few pictures of the grilles on 986 aftermarket bumpers it looks more like the grille is mounted from behind with no lip on the top. I think that finding a grille with a lip like this and one that fits the contours of the 986 bumper would be key here.

Race cars are not pretty, they are made for one thing... speed. But if you want to look cool and vent your "third radiator or boxster s oil cooler" then you will have to cut. Thats how its done on the 996 GT3 cups. While your cutting around, cut a boxster s vent so it looks like it does something.

haha, i actually think race cars ARE pretty.
i like the vent tho, its just that it follows the more curvy line of the 987, damn it.
