Boyd Coddington Passed Away

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20080227-1037-ca-obit-coddington.html

Some people loved his work and others hatted it, but we have to relise what he did got the Custom car hobby.

RIP Boyd

What did he die of? An anger overdose? All he ever did on that show of his was set impossible deadlines then bully every one of his employees for not being able to meet said deadlines. Now his choice cars, beautiful shop and fat wallet will be someone else's. What he left? a legacy of mistreating his people. Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry the guy died. Frankly, I hope to learn from his lesson. This is especially true for me as my car & house will probably be gone in June.

His 1st wife (and their son) still works for Boyd Wheels, but it is no longer part of the Boyd Coddington business enterprise. It was sold of to American Eagle I think

As for his "hot" wife, did he re-marry for a 3rd time or are you referring to Jo?

Too bad, he got a lot of people interested in the hobby. Now he's up there together with Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and shootin' bad ju-ju down at Chuck Foose...lol

That is quite unexpected and sad. Watching his show was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. When the show initially started it was actually a pretty good show. Then he started to lose key people one after another then inexperienced hacks started to join and then get fired in rapid succession.

I agree Lil.... mad mojo for Foose as he single handily stole pretty much everyone from Boyd.

yes his show was quite funny, but i think all the workers used it to show off how much they can do and lave him once they got some recognition.

funny guy he is tho, and he was all up on his business tho, looks like till the last day.
i enjoyed the show, and they came up with some great cars
sad

is it just me or did anyone else think that skinny guy that worked there looked extra goofy... You could always see his upper front teeth and he would talk as if only had 2 functional muscles in his jaw... I think he was one of the first to be swiped up by Chip Foose.

He was their top machinist - ran the CNC operation - very skilled. He was partially paralyzed in the face from a bad wreck he was in testing one of the cars.

Oh man Nick, you should make a new thread instead of posting a technical question in a thread about someones death, haha. Probably isnt anything you can do about it unless you wax it to protect it but that might even knock off the paint from it as well.

Sinner, don't feel too bad, I think Boyd would prefer we talk about car stuff rather than our opinions of his show and leadership style anyway. Great designer, some fabulous rides out there just went up in value. He leaves his legacy on the automotive industry and like many people before him, pissed off a few folks along the way. RIP Boyd, thanks for the rides...
