986/996 Rebuilt Engine source

I came across the new website for Motormeister. I was surprised to see that they now have a rebuilding program for the 986/996. A turn key rebuilt 986 for $5995- with limited warranty, sounds not bad at all. I know this SoCal based company has been rebuilding primarily early Porsche engines for decades now.

They have an extremely bad reputation...buyer beware.

Search on Pelican. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=254145&highlight=Motormeister

Not that it matters, but the picture on their site is not a Boxster engine.

Thanks Tool Pants.

I read to post 180 and had to skip to the end. That thread has some legs to still be going after 2.5 yrs. But if Motor Sheister is still going, people need to be made aware before they "invest" thousands of dollars.

ToolPants,
Thanks for posting such an enlightening thread about MM's reputation. I browsed at MM's site years ago and they only dealt with early Porsche engine rebuilds. I was surprised they now have a "986/996 program"- sounds too good to be true.
Just for future reference( I hope no one will need such services), aside from the Dealer. Are there any OTHER RELIABLE sources for a rebuilt or new engine??

You do realize that a reman motor from Porsche is under $10k if you have a core. Depending on the displacement and the discount from retail you can get, the price on the engine directly from Porsche is not significantly more $$ than buying a rebuilt from other sources or maybe even cheaper.

Im very tempted to call motormeister and tell them that I had an IMS failure on my Box and that I wanted a rebuild. Curious to see what kind of ride they would take me on....may make my day, haha.
