CPO and Keys

Someone I work with bought a certified pre-owned Boxster on Saturday. They gave him one key and no owner's manual. Now they want to charge him $380 for a second key - which I gather is the going rate. He hasn't asked about the owner's manual, but I understand they are pricey too.

Does anyone know if the CPO inspection covers items like spare keys and manuals? I was thinking of recommending that he contact PCNA if the dealer didn't relent and give him the key. I want to give him as much ammunition as possible to deal with the dealer.

BTW - he bought a 2004 Arctic Silver with black interior. It's going to be like having my car's younger brother in the parking lot. The glass rear window is nice. It appears larger than the ones offered on the after-market tops.

I would have to say that it should have been dealt with prior to sale as quite often those things are missing on a re-sale. Has he checked for his tool kit? it's another thing that can be missing.

The owners manual is about 25 or so dollars.

Cpo Checklist

The Porsche CPO checklist is pretty comprehensive (but not the best in the business). A copy of the completed checklist should be provided to the buyer at the time of sale. It checks for all manuals, books, pamphlet, radio card. It also checks the operation of all keys. If within 2500 mi of a scheduled service it requires the service be completed. A good mechanic can get a CPO done in 2 - 3 hours (including a test drive) -- unless something needs to be fixed or a scheduled maintenance performed. My first CPO was done 4.0 by the dealer. The second at the same dealer was obviously not done at all. The sales manager was offended when I pointed out that it was obviously not done. The dealership owner had a far different view. Porsche USA was not happy as well since their CPO warranty assumes the car is in a certain state when it leaves the lot.

I would call the dealer and request a copy of the checklist. Then talk to the sales man and/or sales manager.

Hope this helps.
ATB,
Tom

Obtw

He should probably call PCNA (the 800 service number) and see if the CPO was registered. I think the checklist also ensures most dealers do that right as well.
