Quick questions

Hi all.

I'm closer to getting a Boxster and have found one I'm keen on and going to have a look at tomorrow, however I've noticed in his ad that he's written the following specifications...

2.7 litre flat 6, Petrol engine
2 doors, 2 seats
6 speed, Manual, Rear Wheel Drive
180kW, 0-100km/h 6.0 seconds
Fuel consumption 9.3L/100km
CO2 emissions 222g/km

Being a 1997 model, I thought the 2.7's wern't available until later on in the piece say 2000 model???

Can anyone verify this?

The original 2.5 may have been swapped out for a 2.7 somewhere along the line. There were a few problems with some of the earlier model year engines. A search here will turn them all up. If it's a swapped engine you are probably better off.

Yeah, the gentleman tells me that the car is original, but was mainly just interested to know if they came out with a 2.7 that early on.

Family member has a CLK 55AMG and it is an absolute beaut of a vehicle.

Yup, the first 3 years (starting in 1997), the Boxster was available only with the 2.5 engine. In 2000, Porsche upped the standard model to 2.7 and introduced the 'S' model, with the 3.2.

So it's either not a '97, or it's not actually a 2.7 (unless the original one was swapped out).

Also, there was no 6 speed manual available until 2000.

Check out:

Gives info on each year, from '97 to '07.
