Cadillac CTS-V

Pic and specs for the new CTS-V are out. Thoughts? I'm attaching a link to the information, here are some of my thoughts:

Positives:
- Nice looking, love the front, looks mean
- Actually put some effort in performance, brembo brakes, high tech suspension, supercharged etc..
- Interior looks solid, probably the only American interior I like
- 550HP - can't complain about that
- Recaro seats are sweet

Negatives:
- Don't like the rear
- It's made by GM, I don't think I could ever pull the trigger on an American car
- Weight - Wow, it is a beast 4400lbs (negates the power benefit)

Overall, I think this is a step in the right direction. If they price it well below the German competition it could work out well for them

Be interested to see how the test drives go when the auto mags get a hold of one.

Some random thoughts...

All new sedans are heavy. I bet the RS6 (Audi) and M5(bmw) are both over 4,000lbs.
GM has come a long way.

While I wouldn't want a new one (and need to absorb the depriciation hit) buying one in 2-3 years would be nice.

Didn't realize they were over 500hp. The last ones had what, 400hp? 6sd manual. I think the new ones look sharp but I do fear that unlike a BMW or Audi, it will look "old" before its time.

I wouldn't buy it just because its a Cadillac

Its a fine fine car.

I have no issue with it being a GM car.

So is the Zo6.

Looks like a frickin' tank...with a Corvette drivetrain.

nice evaluation man. but i have seen on another site a different problem that includes the CTS-V. (see information on Cadillac recalls) although they have received a recall, for me it is still a good car to drive. just needing some high maintenance procedures.

I think it's a very fine American sedan. In my lifetime I know of no light Caddy but if GM wishes to make the two seat drop top an honest sports car it needs a diet. The XLR weighs 3840...oink oink

The car (and this thread) is 4 years old now and the issues are pretty well known. It's an absolute highway hot rod with a tune and exhaust.

I did "The Cadillac Experience" at Monticello Motor Club in NY last month. 90 minutes of track time, with instructor, in the CTS-V Sedan, Wagon, and Coupe. The Wagon had the best balance, and the Coupe was the most exciting to drive.

These cars haul the mail, for certain. Monticello has about 20 of them by my count, and they say they have very few problems. The brakes are massive - the rear caliper is the same unit as on the front of a Cayman. Of course, you're dragging a lot more mass down from speed. The magnetic suspension fluid works wonders, they gave us a demo on how fast it reacts. It measures and reacts to every inch of road at 60 mph. Also, the technology has been licensed to Porsche who incorporated into the new motor mounts on the 981/991.

Our cars had the Recaro seats (air conditioned too -aaah), so I can't comment on the stock ones. But overall it's a very nice piece.

Too bad about the bailout.

I have a 2010 CTS-4, not the V, but it's the most boring car I've ever driven. I'm looking to trade it off on a Audi A6.

Yeah, adding 556 horsepower to the mix does change its character a little.
