987 vs 986 ride quality
Today, I test drove a base 2006 boxster with 17 in tires. I found the ride quality much harsher than the 04 boxster I drive (with new 17 in wheels). I felt every bump was very jarring and seemed to come up right thru the seat.
Is this normal? thanks |
Perhaps the tires were more inflated and that was why the ride was more jarring? Just a guess though. I was also told that if the car had been sitting for a while the tires can flatten out and it will ride more rough at first.

That sounds likely. Tire pressure really makes a huge difference. I just dropped my pressures two pounds front and rear and it's noticeable. I would have guessed that the 987 with 17's would have a smoother ride since the side walls on the tires look so tall in all of the photos. |
Tire pressures are likely a contributor. However, assuming both cars are adequately maintained, that is probably not the major factor. Assuming the older car has the original shocks chances are you're just feeling the difference between new and worn dampers.

Did either car have M030? My 00 has it and with proper pressures on PS2s it drives like an ass-busting corvette C4...
