driver window will not auto roll down when door opens
 

I need some help guys.
I have a 1999 2.5L boxster.
My driver side door window will not auto roll down when you pull on either inside/outside door handles. You know how the window automatically rolls down an inch when you pull the door handle.
Passenger side window works fine. Also manually rolling up and down the driver side window works but it will just not automatically roll down one inch. I have tried this when the car is both on and off. I can hear the window motor make a sound like it is rolling it down but it doesn't. Once again, the auto roll when the door opens does not work but both the auto roll up and down via the button works.
Any advice guys????

Number 14 is your culprit.

Is it an easy replacement or should I take it in to the dealer?
Also, do you know the name of #14 incase the dealer needs to know so that they don't charge me for a diagnostic?

You would need to take the door apart, and I do not know if that is to much DIY for you.

Try a little WD-40 shot into the front [facing door] left hinge area [using the red tube] to see if it helps.

Have to take the door panel off to see what is going on. If you hear the motor then it sounds like a problem with the regulator.

I had just went to the deal to order part #14 ($28USD). What part is the regulator?
It look like the window goes down 1-2mm as if its trying to go down when you pull the handle but doesn't go any further.

It is making an abnormal noise then the normal motor generated noise.

Different then the passenger side.

I measured my drop [MY97] and it seems to be a 10mm drop for me.

I measured from the upper edge of the glass [in the groove] and then the drop.

If I measured from the lip of the window edge it may be close to only a few mm drop.

When you open the door, does the upper window catch on the edge of the roof.

BTW- I would not go to the dealer for a micro switch, a electronics wherehouse would be cheaper. It's only an on/off switch. It's worth a try, personally a surplus store would make it a pennies type deal.

The window still catches on the plastic rim. If it were another 3mm, I think it would clear. I measure from the very bottom of the window from the inside.
As for the part, its a few hours too late but I'll know next time if the passenger window decides to do this too. I already prepaid for the part this morning(it was the first thing I did today).

How about the noise differential: side by side.

It appears to sound like the same type of noise except, the noise on the passenger (good) side is louder and more firm, while the driver (bad) side sounds weaker.

Probably the motor going out or binding on something?

Need to pull the door and see, you can analyze what you see and better overcome the obstacle.

On Renn tech there is a DIY for the door removal, if you have a Harbor Freight and tools they have a door molding pullers Sku 35517 [they look like putty knifes] they come in a box. Very helpful and cheap, it will save you from breaking your door grommets.

Thought so. Watched a mechanic I know at my local dealer replace one in 20 minutes. He has done a few and would have been done sooner if I was not there asking questions and taking pictures.
