Interior light problem

I have a problem with my interior lights. They only work when the key is in the iginition. (Also my gage lights don't go off in the car until I lock the doors with the key remote!)

My '98 has a appointment at the local dealer on the 30th of Sept. Hopefully someone out ther has had this and can give advice before taking it to Porsche.

When the cars are shipped over they are in the transit mode to save the battery. The interior lights do not work unless the key is turned on. The dealer then programs the car to the hand over mode so the interior lights go on when you open the door. Sometimes they forget to do this

That would be my guess if you had a new car.

My gauge LED's stay lit until I press the button and lock the doors as well. I think this is normal.

yeah, my gauges stay lit as well. They will go out after time on their own without locking the doors, though. how long it takes, i do not know.

Hey! I noticed tonight that I have no foot well lighting on either side. Did they sell early 1997's without it?

I guess I'll have to take a flashlight (that would be a torch for all you Brits reading this) to the foot wells and see if I can find a bulb that's burned out or isn't lighting up.

Footwell lighting was a $350 option in 02 and similarly exhorbitant every other year.

Very few Boxsters were ordered with footwell lighting.

Easy DIY though.

Is the footwell lighting actually in the footwell, or is it the white light next to the door lights (the red ones that shine when the door is open?

I think that when the interior lights come on at night (with the hood down) it looks really brightly lit up (and looks superb of course).

Could also be due to my beige interior.

There is a light on each side behind where the storage bin below the radio is. Also a dash switch. I though the option was $750 or some other crazy price. Only seen 1 Boxster with it. Seen a few 996s and a turbo with it.

The lights on the door are really an option. If you do not get something other than the basic radio then you get no door lights.
