Exhaust advice
Alright so my one or two of my cats are bad right now. They are making an awful rattle noise so I went under car and tapped the cats with a hammer and sure enough its bad. So I am going to buy a new exhaust; what I want to do is get a new set of headers and do the secondary cat bypass piped. This would remove all the cats... how bad is that???? So I would like to go with the Fabspeed bypass pipes and i'm not too sure on headers yet I saw these but b/c they are so cheap I am not sure if they are any good
anybody used them before??? Thanks!!!! |
Did you check to make sure the rattle isn't coming from the heatshield, or flange/bolt?
I have a brand new set of aftermarket headers and new stainless steel, twin tip exhaust for sale. If you're interested, PM me. |

Do you plan on removing all 4 cats or just the secondary, depending on your car you may only have 2 cats. If you are only removing the secondary set you should be fine if you are removing all of the cats I believe you will have cel issues. |
Difficult to answer your question since you do not state what year or model Boxster you own. The simple answer, as Gary pointed out, is if you completely remove the cats, you will no longer be smog legal and you WILL have CEL. Only completely remove cats on a race dedicated vehicle.

sorry forgot to mention model. I have a 2001 2.7. it is the one with 4 cats....

If I were in your shoes, I'd be buying this Fabspeed setup from Suncoast. Looks to be a very good deal!
http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code =evoe&Category_Code=986exhaust You'll get new cats AND a free flow, single chamber muffler. No idea if it resonates between 2-3k though. |
Since you have 4 cats you can safely remove the secondary cats. I have not done it but the research shows it can be done without causing a CEL.
