so why a 7?
does this look good or what? its been like 3k or so after the oil change.
pulling the dipstick shows good oil level

That's weird, I have never seen anything like that. I didn't even know the screen could display numbers there.
I even checked my owners manual and it doesn't say anything about this.

Is it staying up or was it a one time appearance?

huh?
well this is once u turn the key over, it ticks and tells you how much oil you have. this is showing full, but only a 7. weird, i don't have a manual, but im not sure if the numbers are supposed to go any higher, or if this is normal.

How long has it done this? Does the 7 show each time you use the electronic dip stick?
The numbers in the display are used to show the waiting time until the dipstick will function. They are not related to the actual oil level. In this case, it seems as if the 7 is somehow getting "stuck", unless it is also some sort of code used to indicate a problem with the system.
The manual doesn't provide much information except that:
If the whole segment display flashes, there is a fault in the measuring device.
and
The waiting time is displayed by clock C when the ignition is switched on, as a count-down in minutes and seconds.

no the numbers would tick away, so say 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 and then it would show the level and a 7 next to it, like shown in the picture.

DJ, that's the RMS indicator light. You have 7 months till the RMS starts to leak.

This one is odd. It shouldn't get stuck, after it counts down to the oil level the countdown numbers should diappear. Try giving your dealer a call.

Try re-seating the gas cap, I've never seen numbers next to the oil indicator on my '00 base, plus, I only ever noticed the oil indicator staying lit after starting the 1st time after putting gas in the car. Can't hurt right?

It'll also stay lit if you allow it to register by waiting a few seconds with the key in the ON position before starting the engine.
I'm certainly curious about the "7" though.

DJ does the car have too much oil? I know it's best to have the oil indicator with 1 or 2 bars empty,all full means there is too much oil in the system.
Perhaps the 7 is a step higher then a full bar?

no it doesn't, according to how much i put in when i changed the oil as well as according to the dipstick
