So what kind of rims doI have?
 

As some of you know, I bought a 2000 Boxster about a month ago without doing a lot of research before the purchase. I was actually looking to buy a Toyota MR2 but "somehow" ended up with a Boxster instead. Even though it cost more $$$ than the MR2 but it is worth every penny. :)

So npw getting to the point, I am not sure what kind of rims I have on my car. I know they are stock rims and 17" but it is different from all the cars I have seen here in this forum. What kind of rims are these? :confused: I am thinking of buying nicer rims (18 or 19 inch). If I sell it, will anyone buy it? How much do you think I can get if I sell them. :chicken:

those would be sport classics.
i had a set of those, veryyyyy nice wheels, and you can get a pretty penny for them, i had a lot of interest when i got rid of mine(even tho i didnt even advertise them hehe)

Those are Sport Classic II 17" rims.
If you want to sell them, please let me know. I have been hunting for a set, maybe we can work out a deal.

I traded in a silver 2003 MR2 in mint condition for my 2002 Boxster. It's got way more miles on it than my Spyder did and doesn't compare to the Spyder in MPG but it's the best choice I ever made. Wise choice!

Just a few things that the Boxster has over the MR2

- Horsepower (the MR2 is light so it's fairly quick but over 4500 RPMs and it's 4 cylinders sound like a model airplane on crack)

- Automatic top

- Canvas top vs vinyl (If you put your top down every day in the Spyder it wears out, cracks and peels.)

- Storage space (MR2, there's only enough room in an MR2 for two duffel bags behind the seat. The engine is in the back and the only thing under the hood is a spare)

- It's a Porsche not a Toyota

I have the same sport classic rims that you had and I'm lookiing to sell them, could I ask you how you made out selling them?

Rick, you're obviously in love with wheel cleaning, huh?

Those rims are nice looking, but an extra half hour ever time one washes the car to wash and dry between each of the spokes makes me awfully pleased with my five spoke Carrera lights! I can even put my hand inside the wheel to clean the inside of the rim.

yeah when it comes to wheel cleaning, those had to be the worst wheels ever.
took longer to wash and dry them than washing a boxster 5 times no joke.

definitely a major PITA to keep clean. When looking for my Boxster I stayed way clear of those. They reminded me too much of the wheels my wife had on her Volvo S80 - Arrakis. They looked great when clean, but absolutely like s**t w/in a short drive. The only way to clean the insides is..... you guessed, jack the corner and pull it off :(

I don't mind the cleaning time. But I have to get a set first.

i was thinking the same...trust me man, not fun, not fun at all (and this is coming form a guy who enjoys cleaning cars )

RandallNeighbour, those have to be the cleanest calipers I have ever seen :)

sport classics are just what they sound, classic, they never go out of style ;) I myself enjoy the torture of cleaning the mesh style, I find it easier to spray them with rim cleaner and rinse then do it again and use a big enough brush to fit between the spokes. What a great way to waste you weekends... :D

who cares about how long it takes the clean the wheels if u like them...just pay someone to do it. I dont have more then a few free hrs a day and when i do have the free time id rather spend it with my family, friends and my gf instead of cleaning my cars. So just pay a few extra dollars weekly and have someone take care of it :-)
my bro had those same exact wheels except powder coated black.

i must agree that once mine were black it was much easier because they didnt show as much dirt.
but in silver they were hell

The only hand car wash near me isn't near me. So the loss of time to take my car there ... and sit and watch them clean it ... and pay them - isn't worth it.

It takes me twice as long or more to clean my 5 spoke wheels than to clean the whole car, so the very, very good looking wheels here I would never consider putting on my car because I can't stand dirty wheels and these would be a bear to keep clean. And, as Burg boxster said, you would have to jack the car and remove them to clean the barrell. yuk. But I sure enjoy seeing them on other people's cars. They are beautiful.

i guess im lucky theres a car wash about a ten min walk away from my workplace so i leave it there and head off to work :-) so my car is nice and shiny all the time...altho i have a little less money in the pocket but its worth saving my time lol

and the wheels are nice i really like them actually so i say keep 'em :-)

I bet they love it when you leave it there, Always check the miles before you leave it and check it when you pic it up.

Ichiro, where abouts in Massachusetts are you located? There are 3-4 others here on the forum from MA. I tried to put together a 1-2 hour "drive" a few times last summer but some conflicts always got in the way preventing a good number of us from doing it. THIS SUMMER FOR SURE! I'm in Northbridge - about 1/2 way between Framingham and Worcester, the others are in Boston / eastern MA area. If you are interested I'll put up on the contact list for next summer! Enjoy.

I'm not worried about that, by now I know most of the guys there since ive been leaving the car about once a week for about a yr now so if they really wanted to take it for a spin honestly i wouldn't care as long as they didn't mess anything up, its just a car. Although the owner of the place is there most of the time and he wouldnt let them do that or he'd lose business if that kinda thing happened. Plus the place gets a lot of high end cars so they're used to better things then my boxster lol
the owner himself has a maserati and a lambo, so next to those cars my car looks like a geo metro hahaha
