Today is the first day for the 997

Today, August 28, 2004 is the first day for the new 997. If you test drove it what did you think? I will be going over to my porsche dealership later to drive it.

Chevy Chase?

Sorry Wrong thread.

I drove one at almost exactly 9:11 AM this morning. (dont worry... it was just an coincidence.) And... I know its not a boxster but it was still pretty cool (heh). I took a couple of photos. The top photo is the same car I drove pulling out on the next test drive after mine. This was at Niello Porsche in Sacramento. http://porsche.niello.com/inventory

I didn't push it too hard but it was still a very nice ride. The sales guy said they had 2 more available 997s in their first allotment, but I bet they sell today. You can order one but its a minimum of 6 months wait.

I'm still waiting to see the official photos of the 987 before I decide which one to buy. I'm guessing either way its going to be a 6-9 month wait for a 2005 987 or 997. From what I saw today I think its going to be worth the wait.

The rumors I've seen online are that Porsche will probably bring the 987 to the Paris Auto show in about a month. I kind of don't believe it since it would be weird to release two brand new models so close together, but you never know. Boxster sales have been so slow they may be looking for the extra boost (attention) the 997 brings. I'm sure there are tons of buyers who would love a new 997 but can much more easily afford a 987.

I'll guess we'll just have to wait to see.

Nice car. I'm not too fond of the interior though. And I notice it has 4 tailpipes? I hate that (a la BMW M3).

So far I prefer the 996 to the 997. And from pics I've seen, I prefer the 986 to the 987.

I love the 997...except for the interior...i think it's much nicer in 986/996...but the rest...really nice shaped...and for the tailpipe, that can be easily changed :-)
Here the 997 is out for over a month. Local dealer had a show...most 911 owners were delighted with this new front...I hope this is going to be the case for us too with the 987...

I love the new 997 , interrior, exterior , u name it...

Just a little baffled by the fact that they took out the spare tire in room for more cargo space, oh well...

I liked the fried egg design better. Anyone can have a round light. Porsche's should be different more distinguished.

AWESOME !! http://www.914club.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/clap.gif

Peter Porsche released the videos and did a presentation for us at Parade in Texas this past July. The LIVE pics look great. Cant wait to see the 987.

Well I'm X-posting this from the latest info board, But I sat in both 997 models and couldn't get past the fact that the pedals are so offset to the center of the car. For me it was to the point where I wasn't sitting straight anymore. I don't get that? Is there some reason they did that on the 997? Then again i've never been in a 996 either so what do I know. Sitting in a 997 made me realize how much I love my Boxster. I wouldn't trade mine for anything :D

I think it looks really nice. I don't want to even go near a Porsche dealer until I'm sort of close to ready to buy one. I'm trying to wait for the new 987 to come out and save some $. I'd be afraid right now I'd want the car so bad if I got too close to it a pushy salesman could have me sign my life away for it.
