Engine question??
 

i know that a lot well some of the early boxsters had problems with their engines albeit rms or ims... i have an early 97 boxster with 43k miles on it. with reading most of the post with boxster that have had engine problems its usually early in milage where all this stuff happens well before 30k... how would i know if my cars engine had been previously replaced... i have maintenance records from the car while its been in california but it first was delievered in florida and then to philly as leases and then sold to a dealership in california... so i don't know about the history before it came to california and the carfax showed nothing......

I heard that some cars that are not california cars could have had their engines replaced and it would be impossible to find out. As far as engine trouble goes dont let people here scare you about it. I used to worry alot too untill I saw a guy who has a 99 and has 178K on his original engine. My car doesnt leak in the garage but i checked under it when it was on a lift and it was a bit greasy where the rms is. no big deal. just drive it like you stole it and maintain it. if you really want to know. track the owner down and ask or take it to the dealer and im sure with codes and such they can tell you. btw im in sj and drive to sf everyday so I will wave if I see you.

If it really bothers you pull the numbers off the engine. Any dealer can tell you if they are a match to the body.

I wouldn't worry, keep the oil clean and drive appropriately.

I'd say either way you are ok. My 99' had its engine replaced at 8k miles. Almost all of the failures occurred before 10k miles. The failure I'm referring to is the porous block / sleeve issue.
