I just moved to Overland Park, KS. Looking for a good mechanic (beside dealership) to do maintenance work on my Boxster.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I just purchased a 2000 Boxster S four months ago and had three axle boots replaced at BHR. Very reasonable. I haven't any experience with Imagine but everything I hear is that they're high end—who knows? I'm thinking about having the oil changed at the dealer. They have a pretty sweet deal—$59.95 including M1 oil and OEM filter. PO had work done there.

I've used Bob Hinson for my 79 911...very knowledgable, more expensive than the dealer in my experience.

I've also used Dasautowerk (which used to be JP Autowerks until about a year ago). He's been around forever. Knows air and water cooled P cars. Used to race. He installed my M030 suspension (and even though the mechanic who installed it is color blind, they did a good job) I also used him for my 911, and was very happy with the work.

Imagine is a very good shop, (you drool just looking through the shop windows at what's sitting in the garage..oh my) and I"ve been pleased with their work,,,but out of this world pricing. I had the box aligned there last year. I just took it in and told them to align it....silly me. $300 and it took all day!!! But on the other hand, I had it inspected by them for a DE......and they charged me less than $70. so go figure.

Aristocrat (the dealer) got a really bad service reputation a few years ago. However, when mine was still under warranty, I took it there a couple of times and was pleasantly surprised. So maybe the service mgr or owner kicked some butt in the service dept and got it turned around. I haven't been back to them for a while so I can't comment from a personal basis, but my father in law takes his Mercedes to them and seems to be pleased with their work.

If any of you guys wanna get together sometime, let me know. THere seems to be a real shortage of Boxster owners here.....or at least any who actually drive their cars!!

good work...similarly expensive but probably less than Imagine. Dasautowerks...A1 work, reasonable pricing

We moved down here from Ohio, so I am hoping to get a few more driving days than up there before putting it away for the winter :(

Would love to get together for a beer and talk p-cars. I have been trying to decide what I want to do do to the car over the winter break.

Dcompress: What you should do is drive it!!! There are only very very few days around here you can't drive it......with proper snow tires. Find some used wheels (so you don't have to mount and unmount four tires every spring and summer), get a set of "insert desired tire here" and go! There are lots of do-it-yourself car washes around to keep the gunge off. I have the Dunlop Winter Sport tires (I think that's the model!..they're in the garage and I don't wanna go out and look at the moment) and have not "needed" to take out the SUV for the last two winters...since I've owned the Boxster.

That's my plan. Drive it all year. I have a set of 17" turbo twists that I'm going to mount a set of Blizzaks on and go for it. If things get too crazy I can always borrow my wife's quattro. I thought about a hard top but Bob O is right, there are too many winter days in KC that it creeps into the upper 60s and low 70s.

I am not putting it in storage or anything. Just kept in the garage except for nice days. I doubt there will be many top down days over the winter :)

i think your box has a melanin problem... or needs to tan. lol :D

I add a little sun block in the wax. Too many UVs will kill ya!
