Changing Cabin Filter
 

When I took my car to PPI, the service manager told me that there is a mouse nest in the cabin air filter :eek: . So the first thing I did after buying the car is go to the internet and bought a cabin air filter. I just received it today, can anyone point me to a good DIY site to replace the cabin air filter? BTW, my car is a 2000 Boxster.

Its a possible sign that the car sat for a little while. Its a simple do-it-yourself job.

I had the same thing. Mice must like Porsches! Its an easy replacement though, as those directions show. Now everytime I'm by the front of my car, I'm paranoid that I see a mouse by the windshield wipers so then I have to check the filter. So far the mouse hasn't come back though. I think its just a reflection in the paint every time!

Changing my cabin filter today too. This guy has them for $19 + shipping.

Just changed it too. The old was was filthy! :troll: Probably the easiest DIY ever.

I had mice make a nest in my cabin filter as well. Now I make sure there are always loaded traps beside the car to kill those Boxster lovin' varmints.
BTW: They seem to really be attracted to dog kibble :)

Has anyone ever trying vacuming the filter or hand washing it in the kitchen sink with medium hot water and dish soap?

How do those mice get in there? Are your plastic screens broken?

Cabin Filter on 2006 Model?
 

Where is the cabin filter on a 2006 Boxster and is it as easy to change as the older models? If so I would do it myself when the time comes.

Vacuuming or simply knocking out the debris would work to an extent. I am highly doubtful that washing with water would work as it's a paper filter. I don't see that it really gets that dirty (depending on the environment where you live), as much as it just gets old and frayed. At least mine wasn't as dirty as say an air filter and the new one I put in ~4K miles ago still looks brand new.

I bought a carbon filter for less than $50 and changed it in less than 5 minutes... Considering the cost and trouble, I'd just change it out with a new filter when the time comes.

There is plenty of info and instructions for changing the cabin filter on 986 cars but what's the deal on 987 cars? Where the heck is it and is it easy to change yourself? It's one less thing to have the dealer do when it's time. Any input is appreciated, thanks
