Recommended oil change interval?

I have recently purchased a 2002 Porsche Boxster. What is the recommended oil change interval for this car? After searching online, I've found websites which say every 5000 and others say up to every 15000 miles (which sounds extreme to me).

Very nice car! Congrats.

Is that top a tan color? Never seen tan before on the Boxster. Nice.

Use 0W40 Mobil 1.

Change oil every year or between 7,500-10,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Yep, very clean car. I too love the tan colored softtop, very unique...People say 15K. This is total synthetic if using Mobil1 (which you should of course), so use your judgement but I have seen more in the 12-15K range, or like mussatti said at least once a year!

Welcome and congrats!

This recommended interval has changed over time. We anal types go with about 7500 miles but Porsche has vacilated between 10 and 20K.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on the purchase, it's a great color combo, very unique.

Doesn't change the advice given, but is it a daily driver?.

Hello there folks, this is my first post here.

I was a German car mechanic for 14 years in my last career. Of course that was a long time ago...

Anyway, I just bought a new Boxster S and was wondering the same thing. The service schedule says first oil/filter change is at 20K! That sounds a bit long to me. Particularly for someone that did "600 mile services" on new Porsche and BMW cars to get that first oil change done. OK, I know technology has changed and the machining tolerances are tighter and the oil is blessed from above. So, I figure I'll do every other oil change so it gets done every 10K. Seems like a good compromise.

Your thoughts?

the guys here are right

I do it every 7500 or a year which ever comes first. for me both came at the same time and i dont drive too often, but when i changed my oil it was really really dark. so do it at 7500...better safe than sorry.
