Overrev. a TipTronic ?
 

My 98' Boxster is my TipTronic / Autmatic car.

I read a lot about people suggesting not to over-revving the car.

I was wondering what I can do to prevent doing this in my Tip Boxster.

Usually when I accelerate and I want to make a fast acceleration, I just floor the speeder and the rev meter goes into the red zone for a very short while in each gear (Automatic mode - D). Is this actually harmful to the car (I do it a few times a week), it would seem strange if the car was not designed to handle maximum acceleration a few times a week, and even more strange if the TipTronic was not designed in a way that prevented damaging your car?

The rev-needle does not stay in the red area of course it just goes there and then shifts.

Even if I am in TipTronic mode the car will make a shift automatically if I 'forget' to shift, could this cause overreving ?

You can't over-reve a tip unless it is malfuctioning, the computer won't allow it. An over rev occurs when a manual transmission is mis-shifted ie: wrong gear selected.

after the temperature has been solidly on the 180 mark for at least 5 minutes. Give everything time to warm up and for max oil circulation to occur. Then blast away within the limits of safety.

I have seen tips that managed to get into Range 1, but the number of ignitions is much lower than what you typically see with a manual transmission car.

Never seen a tip get into Range 2.

Range 1 does not hurt the car so I would not worry about it.

This is a 2001 S with tip.
