Winter rims

I have a 2007 base boxster and I am thinking of getting winter tires for it. I currently have 17" rims with summer tires. I wanted to get rims for winter tires and was looking for the smallest size that will fit this car, as well as fit a Boxster S (as I think I will upgrade eventually) as I don't want to buy new rims (the current car is leased). I won't bore you guys with asking for tire recommendations as there are a ton of threads on that here. Thanks in advance.

Not allowed in NYC. Also, don't particularly want to drive around in chains during cold, non-snowy weeks.

The ContiWinters are supposed to be the best snow tire available.

Best at what? I don't beleive that for a second. All tires compromise on something:
cost
dry traction
wet traction
cold traction
snow tracktion
heat resistance
noise
comfort
responsiveness
feedback
etc.

IMHO, there is no "best" tire of any kind. It's all about finding what fits your priorities the best, and therefore what's best for one person won't be best for many others.

I'm in your surrounding area and this is what I would recommend to you.

Get a set of replica 18" wheels (half the cost of OEM) from wheel dynamics or similar and mount Pirelli Winter Sports from the Tire Rack. Let the cheaper replica wheels take the winter abuse and save your more expensive summer wheels and tires for May to October use.
With a race jack and impact gun you can switch wheels in 15 minutes.
Some people will tell you put the winter wheels and tires on when you think it will snow but in the NorthEast a rainstorm can turn into a snowstorm within 5 minutes.
I think its better to run winter tires all season, And without snow tires the Boxster is dangerous in snow.

Let me rephrase that. There supposed to be the best all-around winter tires. For noise, traction, deep snow, light snow, and rain. Just check the 1010tires review.
