Check this out.....I got in an accident.

Went to the car meet at Carlsen Porsche/Santana Row today. It was cool until I crashed my car. It's all good,no one was hurt. I was changing freeways and whamo! I'm sideways and spinning out out of nowhere!

Does anyone here know what exactly I need to install the 03'+ 986 bumper on my car?

BoxsterBob - CA 09-22-2007 01:57 PM

Robert, that broke my heart to see you against that wall. :( I'm glad it was minor and nobody was hurt. It happens to all of us eventually. I definitely see an '03 rear bumper in your future.

ddb 09-22-2007 02:08 PM

Glad to hear there were no injuries.

The car will be better than ever after repairs....

blkboxster 09-22-2007 02:23 PM

Damn dude sorry to hear that, are the rims ok?

The rear wheel is scratched and hopefully it isn't bent. I will find out later this week.

boggtown 09-22-2007 02:48 PM

Ya dude, looks sucky. Sorry I couldnt help you. I was coming back from a night of "fun" so I was kinda out of it. Good luck.

bmussatti 09-22-2007 02:50 PM

I get quezy just looking at that. Sorry for you. You'll be back 100% again soon.

Perfectlap 09-22-2007 02:53 PM

are those Continentals?

blinkwatt 09-22-2007 02:55 PM

There are P Zeros.

Boxtaboy 09-22-2007 03:21 PM

Sorry about your accident, but glad no one was hurt. You can put on the 03+ rear bumper, but the problem is that the bumper has a bigger gap to accommodate the larger rear spoiler in the 03+ cars. To make it look right, you'd need to also buy & install the newer, larger rear spoiler from the 03.

I've already done my homework;

986.504.609.02-03' rear spoiler
986.504.613.02-03' rear spoiler bracket
986.504.615.02(616.02)-03' bracket side covers

That should be it for the rear spoiler, now I have to figure out the rear bumper. Do you know if it's a straight swap?

Grizzly 09-22-2007 03:49 PM

Robert,

Glad you're O.K. That could've really ended up badly. Bumpers are replaceable.

Check with TriGem on the rear bumper conversion. He did it on his car.

bigb 09-22-2007 05:29 PM

Really sorry to see that blinkwatt. Glad to know you are OK. I know I would be feeling really down if something like this were to happen, but as others have pointed out, everything is fixable, and the car will be better than new in no time. Report back on how your 03 bumper/spoiler conversion turns out.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is a straight swap. I've seen it put on someone's car, but they didn't put the newer spoiler on, so it looks a little strange to me because of the gap left. If you put the newer spoiler on, I think it'll look just fine.

Boxter 09-22-2007 06:26 PM

Sorry to see the pics in this thread...

I've read about it more than a few times on the web before and have seen it discussed as a straight swap...given your parts list it sounds like you'll be Ok.

Good luck with the repairs.

bmussatti 09-23-2007 10:17 AM

Blink were the roads wet/damp? Do you have PSM?

I think this is least the 3rd or 4th Boxster I have seen on this Forum in your situation, and the roads were usually wet/damp, and the Boxster did not have PSM.

Glad you are OK.

zackwatt 09-23-2007 10:49 AM

NOOOOO, Not to such a beautiful car! Good Luck with the Repairs.

No I don't have PSM. Before this happened I never really thought I needed it.

Oh yeah the roads were way wet,1st heavy rain of the year. The part that really kills me is that I was doing triple digit speeds to get to Redwood City and during the drive my group had to speed a bit to catch up to the rest of the pack.....I lose the car switching freeways in traffic doing at most 40mph. The photo guys for the event were behind me for the drive and they saw everything that happened. They said it looked like it happened out of no where,no reason for it,car just let loose. Guess I got off lucky, could have ended up a lot worse if it happened during any other part of the drive!

Another guy at the meet said his Box started getting a little loose but his PSM kicked in,lucky guy.

Does there not seem to be an unusually high number of accidents in this forum?
