seat question

Was wondering if it is possible to switch my drivers and pass. seatbacks to balance out the wear? I have a '99 with power heated leather seats. Driver seatback is very worn on side from sliding in and out.

Hi, I do not know about switching the seats but you can remove the leather and switch it around.

I don't think swapping out the seat cover will work. The seats have levers on the outside that tilt them forward. Swapping that kind seat cover won't work and if you just swapped the backs you will have the same problem to include the latch for that seat. The bottom seat won't match-up with the latching mechanism.
Wish I knew what to say except to buy a new drivers side seat cover or find a good used one.

I just double checked and my seats have release levers on both sides, would that make a difference ?

I don't think you'll have a problem switching just the leather from the seat backs. But your probably won't be able to switch the lower part of the seat with the controls.

Hi, I had already checked 4 U, now can you switch the leather and let me know how it goes , I might just do the same.

The seats have levers on the both sides to flip forward, but the controls are on the outside of both seats, and depending upon whether you have full power seats, the wiring is different. I don't see why you couldn't swap the leather, but the full seat will be an issue- unless I'm missing something?

I would just switch the seatbacks, the bottoms are in good shape and still comfy even after 84k mls, unless just changing the leather is easier?

Anybody do this? Removing just the backs of seats with double latch release and switching worn out driver's side with new passenger side. They (the backs only) appear to be of identical symetrical construction. Many of the above posts missed the actual question of switching just the backs with leather intact and not the entire seat.

I switched the leather on mine. So I have not actually swapped the backs myself.

The thread includes links to instructions for disassembling seats. Its not that hard, so if it doesn't work it will only be an hour or two lost.
