got wheels in....now need freggin 25mm spacers...wtf
 

does anyone else think this is too big of a spacer?
the rim, without the tire mounted, is hitting the shock....and other parts back there...

btw, just how much space will there need to be between the the 2, shock and the edge of the wheel?

i will be putting a 275/40/18 tires on the back, they are 10in wide, BUT, when measured from edge to edge, it measures 11.

place that sold them to me is telling me that there is no way that i need a spacer that big, but i measured and measured, and even went trough the painof taking some washers, stacking them together, and putting the wheel on, and with about 22 or so millimeters it clears the shock. i just don't see how a 7mm will do...weird.

any input, or place to get a set, IF they don't provide me with one, because i called them a few times and were still kinda going back and forth that they sold me wheels that STATE they will fit a boxster, and yet they do not.

well actually they said that its ok, but i gotta wait 3 WEEKS, # WEEKS, wtf, to get them delivered to me...

Sounds like they were made for a 996... which has a 65 rear offset and would require said spacer. You can get them many places... Todd at Epiq, wheel Enhancement, and you could try livermoreperformance.com. 25 is pushing the limit of what I would run on the street as anything else is putting unneeded stress on the spindle. I WOULD NOT autocross or track with that long of a spacer.

Won't a spacer that size add a lot of unsprung weight too?

just got off the phone again,
they explained me that if i get a 10in wheel, it is usually 11in, so the front ones are 8.5 but in reality they are 9.5 since that is where the tire site when its mounted.

and about the spacers, they said that they are being made and will arrive here in about 12 days. so much better than 3 weeks. free of charge. and that is including the longer bolts to accommodate those spacers.

What is the offset of the rear wheels? My 10 inch wide rears have an offset of 42 mm and need no spacers. In fact, I think my rear wheel tire combo sticks out a tad too far. I'm running 265/30/19 tires and have no clearance issues.

to be honest with you, they are claiming to e a correct stock boxster offset, and were all surprised that they didn't fit. on the back it just says Made in Germany, German design and some other numbers, and for offset it just says ET---- lol

i mean it was really weird, before i even moved the wheel close to the hub it was already hitting the shock, wayyy off.

front ones fit just fine, no problems.

im going with 225/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rear, i got Kumho ASX. my GFs brother runs them on his mustang and he loves them, he works at a tire shop and can get pretty much any tire, but he stuck with these for a 3rd or 4th time, so i said what the hell...he runs 295s on 19in Saleen wheels :)

you should get the 35 series tire in the rear.

I am no wheelologist, and i have only put after market rims on about 13 of my own cars so far, but it sounds to me like the guy that sold you the wheels doesn't know WTF he is talking about. If possible see if you can get your money back and run as fast as you can to a reputable wheel guy. But that's just me. :cool:

275/40 will be too tall. You need to run a 35 series. I don't even think the 40 series would fit. You could even get away with a 285/30.

btw, they run this tire size on stock 18 corvette wheels and doesnt look bad at all.

For a tires size x/y, the x is tread width and y defines the sidewall height as % of x. Examples: 265/35 gives a sidewall of 265*0.35 = 92.75mm. 275/35 => 96.25mm. 285/30 => 85.5mm. Your proposed 275/40 sidewall will be 110mm which is significantly taller

Standard tire diameter on your car is 25" front and rear. You now have 25" fronts and 26.5" rears. The rears may never fit right, will effectively raise your final gear ratio 6%, will raise your car up 3/4", and it may cause issues with you ABS. Are you sure you want those tires on the rear?? 265/35/18 or 285/30/18 would be a better fit. IMHO

DJ, I concur with both Timothy and Topless. Say with the OEM tire sizes. Either 265/35 or 285/30

He's right. A 285 would look sweet, and a 40mm side wall will be to tall and will rub against your fender when you hit a pot hole. :eek:

this is what i came up with from going from a 255/40/17(on the old 17in wheels) to a 275/40/18 (new wheels/tires)

will this make that big of a difference and clearance issues?

The 40 sidewall is kinda tall. You'd do better with a 275/35. You're adding an inch of rim and then .31 X 2 of sidewall. The combination will be nearly 1 3/4 taller than you're running now. If nothing else, you're gonna feel that in decreased acceleration.

rear tires are at my house and will be installed tomorrow hopefully.

...not that i will be able to drive it anyways since the darn wheels still require spacers.


BUT, if they do get installed, depending if my front tires show up, tirerack shipped them said said it will be here tomorrow, i may introduce my new wheels/tires to the board, and well see how the 40 tires looks hahah.

i really like the way these wheels look, so thats why i wanna do whatever it takes to have them fitted. ;)
