key scratch with a happy ending

I was down at the body shop the other day and there was a Ferrari 360 in there with the whole rear quarter sanded down to bare metal. I asked him what happened to it and he told me someone key scratched it. My reply of course was damn that sucks. But, then he told me they caught the guy who did it. Apparently the owner of the car was eating dinner and had his car parked right outside. After dinner they went next door to get some drinks. Some guy at the bar was bragging about just key scratching a Ferrari(who gives high fives for that??? ). He went out to check on his car sure enough there's a huge scratch down the side, calls the police. The cops told him they had witnesses saying they saw him do it, guy confessed. He then got arrested for vandalism and....he has to pay to repaint the Ferrari. :D

Alas! Justice! My Box just got repaired by a bank whose ATM drawer extended in "service mode" and creased my door. The Tech involved saw what he'd done and ran. Cops got him and my car is fixed. Not a Ferrari but feels good when these idiots get caught. Why does anyone want to "key" any vehicle...especially a Ferrari? Good post...feels good!

The fear of some idiot keying my car has really limited the amount of driving I do with my boxster. I just got it a month ago and am still very paranoid about driving it. You know rocks flying up and chipping the paint or windshield. Jealous morons vandalising a nice car, etc.

I am not to worried about being keyed, but it does depend on the area your in. If someone wants to key a nice car, there is always a mercedes around.

I'm more worried about carelessness than maliciousness, so I try to park away from the crowd. As far as keying goes, welcome to Los Angeles, the 911-rich land of Boxster-bliss! Just always make sure you park next to the scores of available 911s in this city, and the worst you will ever see is the laughter of the 911-owner (and the pity of everyone else).

And how does that help? :)

rick3000 09-08-2007 07:43 AM

^ It doesn't.
I guess in the end being keyed is just the luck of the draw, but most people probably will not key a car. (Or else just about everyone would be keyed) If they are out to key a nice car, there are nicer cars than boxster around, and if it is an accident then there is nothing you can do about it. You can help avoid it by parking far way from other cars, but there are no certainties. :D

HAHAHAHA, Your right about that!

That is funny, but seriously, serves him right! I just don't understand people's reasoning and motives for doing things like that. I wish every punk kid got caught for that kind of stuff!
