987 String in Top

Lately when I have been closing the top of my car there is this white string that sometimes sticks out between the canvas top and the plastic piece that goes around the window. I initially thought something was broken but it only happens on occasion.

So I stopped the top half way open and looked in it and discovered that this 'string' goes from one side of the top to the other and attaches right at the edge (about the middle of the window on either side). But there is slack in the string so it can end up hanging out the top when closed. I manually pushed it so the slack is not near the edge, which seems to help.

Does anyone else have this problem? What is this string for?

same problem

I had the same problem with my 05 987, so I took it in to the dealer. Dealer removed some slack and I haven't seen the exposed rope since.

you do need the string I know that much...first time I saw it I wanted to cut it out :)

actually I think it is fastened up there with velcro....I forget its function but the dealer fixed mine and I haven't seen them since...

There's a TSB out on this one. Cab top tensioners. Happened to my car three times before they finally fixed it once and for all. Tool Pants even took a picture of this on one of the first ones that he ever saw I believe. :)

Off to the dealership you go!

The string is what you think it is.

After all, it's a Porsche in panties.

OK, that was in bad taste. But I'm going to click "Submit Reply" anyway.
