Dumb question of the day
In all of the do it yourself work on the net it alway say to have your radio code handy before you disconnect your battery.
That has me scared to disconnect the battery until I find out more about the sacred radio code! -Is it specific to my car (sorta like a VIN#) -What happens if I don't have the code, is it just a matter of reprogramming the stations? Can anyone fill me in on this? Much appreciated Rookie Porsche owner (still have to get hands on owners manual) |
they are all different, specific to that exact head unit.
sometimes the code will be on the bottom of the front trunk. and if yo dont have it, you can have dealer give you one, for a fee....BUT, there are people that can get it for free for you on renntech.org. just post in there and they will get it for you |
look in 3 places
4 digits
Inside front trunk lid on options sticker in handwriting Inside maintenance manual in handwriting On card given at time of purchase. Specific to head unit by serial # for some years (97-02), others have no serial # (03-). Info in my web page on batteries . |
Before disconnecting the battery you can also go get the code in the setting of the radio.. just hold the TP button for 8 seconds.. it will show 'bekers 1' and then you will have the code :)

Thanks to you all!
That was very valuable info (until I can get my hands on a manual...bought the car used...without manuals grrrrrr!) Very much appreciated! Nolongerlookingforboxsterbytheway |
In a prior message you said you picked up a 2003. 2003- 2004 does not have a radio code. There is a 2003 owners manual on Renntech.org.

Toolpants: I actually did find that out after visiting the website proposed by mikefocke below...you beat me to the punch.
Very interesting site on battery comparisons by the way. Cheers! |
no code after "Becker"
Did as per Vipola's instructions and no code.
|
Hold the TP button until you see Becker on the display. Then turn the right hand knob one click at a time until you see the serial number.
You see the serial number on the display, not the unlock code. But with the serial number you can get the code. |
