Convertible Top Warning Light
Howdy, I just bought my first Boxster (2002). The convertible top warning light just came on today and remains on regardless if the top is up or down. The top opens and closes without any noticeable problem. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this?

When you open or close, are you holding the button down until the light goes off completely? If not, then hold it in until it does.
|
My light goes out a second or so before the motor stops running. The top has finished moving but I get the warning light if I release the switch before the motor stops regardless of the top light being off.
|
Yep, when opening or closing the top, HOLD the button until the dash light goes away.
VOILA! |
Thanks, I'm an idiot :D Your suggestion solved my problem.

Vman, you're not an idiot. Just a new Boxster owner. If you have a manual, it's good reading. If you don't have a manual, I'd highly recommend buying one from Sunset in Oregon (cheaper than your local stealership parts counter).

Its ok...it took me a while to turn the lights on...till I realized I was a click too far over and then the lights worked and the a/c came back on haha...

me too
I wouldn't have figured that out either. Luckilythe previous owner pointed it out to me. Welcome.
|
I did that for the first three days of ownership :D

my top is weird, when im closing it, i hold the button till the light goes off jsut like everyone else, but at the end of cycle i get 2 loud CLICKS, and i mean LOUD...i cant seem to figure out what that is

Are the clicks at the dash or over your shoulder...where the cables go into the transmission  I know from experience, I hope not it's not there.

DJ, I don't want to alarm you when it maybe nothing, but I WOULD NOT operate my top again until I had it checked.
I had some pops and wondered, but used the top a few more times. End result, broken cables, that caused a clamshell arm to get bent. Ended up being a $538 repair at non dealeship rates. I tried for a week but could not do anything with it so I ended up taking it the independent shop I use. Hopefully I'm causing you to worry for no reason and your noises are something else...and simple. |
