Variocam Failures MY 03

I purchased a 03 "S" with 14,000 miles. Tracked the car twice, CEL lit up and car started to miss.
Brought to Mechanic and codes indicated misfires and cam crankshaft misalign. Turns out it was a failure of the left bank Variocam. Chaim and sprocket chewed up.
Off warranty, buying exchange thru Porsche.
Has any one else experienced this failure?

Thanks
Bill CT.

That could(I'm not 100% sure) be what we call a IMS (intermediate shaft failure),it's all too common on the 00'+ Boxster engines.
