stepping down in tire size
i have a chance to get a really good deal on some bridgestone Z rated Gforce tires.
the only thing is they are 245/45/17 and now i have 255/40/17. would that create any problems, and will i feel any difference in driving quality? i assume it will be a better ride since the sidewall is a little bigger, but will that be too much sidewall? i dunno, any opinions are welcomed thx |
Bridgestone G Force? hmm.. haven't heard of that combo.
The math has to be close to a wash.. 45% of a 245 vs 40% of a 255? .. but the 45 series tire may feel a bit softer. In the end it comes down to the tire construction, especially sidewall construction. Are these for the rear only or are you putting them at all 4 corners? |
rear only in that size

My track wheels have that size tire 245/45-17 in a hoosier R6 on 17x8.5 OEM S twists on all for corners... creates a really neutral feel. I may go bigger in the rear over the winter, but this combo seems really nice as I can rotate for wear. The smaller rears will lose you some traction in the rear... if I was going to go with those in the rear I would seriously think about them in the front too.
I don't know how good of a deal you are getting but look into Toyo T1Rs... great tire for the price. |
