bike rack
Has anyone mounted one of these to their 986? I just got a Trek Y33 carbon series mountain bike and bought this bike rack, my bodyshop isn't sure it'll work on my car and doesn't want to disassemble mine if it won't. He's waiting on a 986 to come in for a rear bumper repair but, the guy that's supposed to bring it in is pussy footin around and I want to take my bike out to a local bike trail.

I really do not have any idea about the rack, but I would like hear how it turns out for you because the ski rack they make looks exactly like what I need. :D

The problem with the bird rack is that it is $450. This other rack is only $200, but if it doesn't work well that perhaps bird is the way to go or a willwood hitch and bike rack.

The problem we came across on my dad's Turbo was the gap between the rear bumper support and the license plate. I'm just going to take my car in this week and have them tear it down and see if it fits. I guess I'll be the guinea pig. I'll let you guys know how it goes. |
I had the bird the rack until someone smashed into it. Had to take it to a mechanic to get it up on the lift for removal. The owner of the company installed it for me at his place as mine was prototype of some sort. Took about an hour, would have been faster if we had a lift. A good system but you had to be very careful when using it as something was always dangling over the trunk.
The other option is the Wilwood rack that attaches to the license plate and used a hitch mount. Very expensive as you had to buy Yakim or Thule bike carriers in addition to the wilwood unit. I was going to give this one a shot using the new ultra light modern looking Saris Thelma bike carrier. But the Willwood guy never wrote me back. Both methods seem well regarded. |
