Boxster pet peeves

Today I decided to do the most unpleasant chore on my 986...clean the rear plastic window, on the INSIDE! Boy that is a task! That got me to think what other things I do that I despise as I try to keep this old car looking new. Tailpipe and muffler polishing? That sucks! Brake dust,,,awful, and I clean (wipe off) the wheels every day. Keeping fuzz off the top...impossible! I'm sure a lot of us have routines for our cars that we do because we are so comitted to the appearance of our vehicles. It's a slow Friday here in Colorado so I just had to vent! :ah:

I lower the top about 1/2 way and clean the inside from outside of the car.
Very easy.
I recommend an acrylic wax on your wheels and FK 425 spray over it. Brakes dust wipes right off.
Tail pipe is one I haven't tackled with any sort of a real effort.

I am an original Iliinois guy...lived in De Kalb and Geneva prior to Colorado! I love that white car! I wax the wheels every weekend but I hate even a spot of brake dust. We hardly ever get rain here but when it does the Zaino spray works wonders! I am not sure anyone has a cure for the radio! I've tried a lot of options...I just turn it off now and listen to the revs!

Keeping the glass clean, brake dust and not having stereo controls on the steering wheel.

when its raining and your tryin to smoke and water runs straight in through the window soakin the door card, exactly the same in the cayman and 911.....fluff on the roof

The most annoying thing about my Boxster is the fact that I cannot swing the sunvisor to the driver's window. I drive south to work and north on the way home...

re Exhaust cleaning

Go here...

http://986forum.com/forums/show-tell-gallery/11119-cleaned-muffler.html

...for some info on cleaning up the muffler. I sort of combo'd the Nevr-Dull wadding polish and the fine steel wool, starting with the former and finishing with the latter. The Nevr-Dull starts the cleaning process and gets the surface moist with whatever kind of polish it contains; then I pick up the steel wool. It's been awhile, but I don't think I used steel wool on the tips---as I recall they cleaned up pretty easily without it. I think I finished by quickly buffing with an old microfiber towel (dry). I sort of thought I might be wasting my time doing the muffler, since I thought it would probably re-grunge pretty quickly. I was wrong: It's been since last fall (or even late summer) and it still looks very good. Took me and my kid about half an hour.

Actually, I should amend this a bit. I went out and looked at the exhaust (not having done so before posting!) and noted that, while the muffler still looks clean, it's no longer got the shine I saw after the above treatment. I'm sure 15 minutes with the Nevr-Dull (probably without the steel wool) would restore that.

Adam,

Unfortunately, I smoke, but I stopped smoking in the car about 3 years ago and it was one smartest things I have ever done. The interior stays so much cleaner and smells so much better ! Now if I could just quit smoking completely
