Tiptronic dies
Hello all,
Well this is my first post and not a good one. I purchased a 97 boxster fitted with a tiptronic tranny and after 6 weeks of ownership it started slipping when it reached operating temp, it would also stall the motor when stopped at lights. I returned it to the dealership as it was still under warranty and the news today you ask ? $ 18,000 for a replacement transmission !!! wow ( lucky for warranty) The vehicle has done 60,000 km with all the services performed as per specs and logged. I spoke with the porsche agent and he said it was the third one they had done with such low k's. I love the car but im now concerned of future repercussions.. Any thoughts or similar probs guys and girls ??? |
I wouldn't worry too much about your Tiptronic failing on you again, that doesn't happen much on these cars.
I would worry more about RMS leaks(not so much on a Tiptronic),o2 sensor & MAF wearing out & wheels bearing replacements on a 97'. None of which should cost anywhere near as much to fix as replacing your Tiptronic. I'm sure you'll be fine in the end. |
wow...18K for a tip replacement. I'm a tip owner and never realized how expensive it is.
Like Blink said, "None of which should cost anywhere near as much to fix as replacing your Tiptronic." I would just enjoy the car...... |
Yeah i was also shocked, That is in Australian dollars so it would be marginaly cheaper in the States.

Based on our collective input here, the Tip is pretty robust. I would make sure it is routinely serviced, ie the fluid changed and trans filter too!
Good luck, nice to dodge the big one! PS-Keep engine oil clean too! :) |
