Yeah I kept checking throughout the day. I don't post most as I'm still very new and learning but I read everyday. I couldn't get my Boxster fix all day.

Tried several times at around 7pm yesterday (14 hours ago). Just would not connect. Strange one-line message kept appearing, saying site has been hacked into!

Love this forum and log in EVERYDAY, and sure missed it yesterday.

Every time I tried my title bar on Mozilla would say 'Hacked Gold' instead of the norm '986 Forum' then Mozilla would crash.

It seems as though only the index page (http://www.986forum.com/forums/) was changed in such a way that reflected the hack to the viewable world. I checked my browser history and was able to get to previous pages I had visited on the forum, thus allowing me to post from there.

I will ask Rkwei to explain what we know about the hack as soon as we figure it all out.

Thanks for your patience.

What we know about yesterday

First - thanks to all the members who PM'd about the hack. It affected the home page only, so if you knew/had the links for the other forum pages, then everything was still working on those pages.

Unfortunately, I was out of town for most of the day and didn't log in or check emails until around 4pm EST. I alerted the tech guys who put a temporary link in place and then they went about restoring what was deleted.

Who did it and how? Well I'm told it was some guy in Turkey who brute forced his way in using a password program.

In the end - no data got lost, no private info got stolen and we're back in business. Thanks.

I'm convinced these foreign hacker guys are paid by the virus protection and cyber security industry to sell more software.

I saw it on Sunday and was pretty amused. My first thought was "damn, nerd kids STILL think this kind of crap is cool?"
