Wohoooo! work day in san jose  Is there a list of what can and cannot work on? Also, can i post this on other forum?

Henry does not like oil changes because the DIYers spill oil on his nice concrete driveway. He lets me do them on the cars because I have done it 100 times and do not spill or drip oil on the ground. So, for oil changes we started to use the parking lot of a Harley shop owned by my friend. There was already so much oil at the Harley shop parking lot that it did not matter. If you want to do an oil change at Henry's then you need to ask him.

Other than that, I cannot think of simple things that you cannot do at our work on cars day. If you have a project that will take some time then you should put it on Renntech. That way we can make sure there is someone to help you and make sure there are tools for that project.

If I make the drive out can someone help me with the 4th stalk mod? My OBC is already turned on,now I just want to be able to toggle through the options.

mikes_box 07-02-2007 10:34 PM

I haven't ordered it yet.

We are going to do the 4 stalk OBC retrofit on Alberto's 1997. It does not take any longer to do 2 cars at the same time. In fact, I once did 6 OBC retrofits at the same time. In the picture you see 4 cars in the driveway. There are another 2 cars in the garages.

I have a PST2 so I can turn on the OBC.

Cool! Wish I could be there but I live on the wrong coast. You guys should take this act on the road!

Tool Pants 07-03-2007 12:26 PM

No need to take work on cars on the road. It took a year of filming but we came out with 3 DVDs of projects.

We filmed enough other projects for another 3 DVDs if a local someone wants to get involved in creating additional DVDs.

Damn you guys are awsome! I only need minor stuff, air filter/cabin filter/oil-oil filter change(the oil stuff I'll do at my place). Other than that I just want to watch if it's ok. See you guys then. When/where/how long?

Is this link not working?

http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14592

In the olden day it was hetic when a dozen Boxsters showed up. Then the 996s started to show up. We cannot work on that many cars in 3 hours.

When we started filming it was worse, because owners would show up with projects that had already been filmed months earlier. A 1 hour project takes at least 3 times as long when you film it. And we cannot work on the other cars while the tape is runing because of the noise.

So, we had to plan the projects in groups. I no longer do filter changes, short shifter installs, rear speaker installs, or stuff like that, unless there is no one else there to help with those projects. In the past experienced local owners were there to help the others, as the experience owners have done many of these projects before.

I do, or get people started, on the OBC retrofit and brake work as those are safety items.

This is why I request that people register their events on Renntech. If you just show up at 2 minutes and 59 minutes for a belt change then you may be out of luck. But there is always the next time.

There are no plans to film on July 28th so we should be able to get a lot of work done.

You must bring all the parts needed for your project. In the past people have shown up with incorrect parts - sold by a dealership of course. Then they had to run over to Stevens Creek Porsche to pick up the correct parts. But, the parts department is no longer open on Saturdays.

hi, how can i get a copy of the dvd's for diy information....are they being sold??? if so how much and to who??

Tool Pants 07-04-2007 10:41 AM

Henry makes the DVDs and the work on cars is at his house.

This is Ray filming Henry doing the litronic retrofit.

We are always looking for talented actors....

Tool Pants 07-10-2007 11:12 AM

Aileen a/k/a Madam No Fear says she will be there on the 28th - if she wakes up on time.

If you want her to pull your snork out....

mikes_box 07-10-2007 03:52 PM

so how much are the instructional dvd's for?? do i just bring some cash to the work on cars day?? thanks.

Tool Pants 07-12-2007 12:56 AM

Bring beer to work on cars. There must be beer because we use the empties for the brake/clutch fluid changes. No beer = no fluid changes.

You can ask Henry what he does with locals that want the DVDs.

Tool Pants 07-25-2007 05:17 PM

This should be a fun day.

I really hope there's a jackstand under that car!

Tool Pants 07-27-2007 03:07 AM

996 owners have hard heads....

There is a jack stand.

Tool Pants 07-29-2007 12:46 PM

Here is an OBC retrofit that we did on Alberto's Boxster. See some of you next time.
