Engine stalling under 3000 RPM

Just picked up a 2001 Boxster on Sat.
Was out driving today and got on the gas pretty hard to pull out on to a busy street.
Came up to a stop light and the engine cut off....Restarted the car but it will not stay running on its own, I have to keep the car rev'd up above 2500 - 3000RPM or it stalls.

Anyone seen anything like this? Did I pop a vacuum line loose or something simple or should I call the shop and have it towed in.
Kinda sucks only had the car two days and I already broke it.

TIA

Did you get a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) done prior to purchase?

Sounds like a MAF or vacuum problem... Put it in service mode and check the engine. You can get to the intake side pretty easily to check the hoses. If nothing looks out of place, disconnect the wires to the MAF and see if it will start and idle normally.

Did you get a Check Engine Light?

Okay total newbie question, how do I put the car into service mode?
I just bought the car two days ago so I'm still trying to learn all the in's and out's of the car.
I have the huge porsche service manuals in pdf format but cant find how to do this.

I did have the car pre inspected prior to purchasing it, that's what is bugging me, this car had a clean bill of health two days ago.
Also glad I bought the extended warranty for the car.

Thanks for the help
