Carbon build up ????

Ok, this is the 4th time in 3 months my car has gone back to the shop with a CE light on. This first time they changed the Air/oil seperator, MAS and Oxygen sensor. The last two time they said that the sensor was bad and that they would replace it. After getting the CE light on a 4th time they said they would review the problem a bit closer, they should have done this in the first place. After a week in the shop at Porsche they said the sensor went bad due to carbon build up in the intakes. Has anyone had this? I only have 29K on this car so I cannot imagine how the carbon can build up that quickly. I also do drive the car as aggresive as I can. Any sugg would be helpful.

The only thing that comes to mind is that when the MAF goes it can cause the plugs to foul which could then lead to other problems. I'd have them check that. I know my shop originally tried cleaning several of the plugs only to have them foul again in a week.

Just a thought..

Find out what error codes are causing the CEL to trip and report back here. We can help you walk through this. Someone is missing something.

Carbon

Well I got the car back yesterday afternoon. They replaced the MAF and cleaned the carbon buildup in the intake. They said that should fix the problem. As of now they have changed the MAF 2x and the Air/oil separator 2x and the oxygen sensor once. I will get the codes and report back. Hope what they did worked!!

I suggest you find a new garage to take your car to.... carbon build up in the intake manifold sounds like a lot of BS to me.

Just my two cents....

I hope they cleaned the "power band" while you were in there... ;)

Yes all still under warranty and they, the Porsche dealer, provided me with a loaner, a MB C230, not quite the Porsche experience but nice. Anyway, I did not have to come out of pocket for anything , just the hassle of not having my car. I hope all this works as well!.
