fab,

I replaced the MAF sensor on my 2000 about a year ago with part # 996-606-124-00. I can't guarantee that's the correct part number for your car. My recollection is there's an updated part # that requires the DME to be flashed. The part number above was a direct replacement for my car and didn't require the DME to be altered.

The parts folks may need your VIN # to determine the correct replacement MAF.

I hope this helps a little.

I paid $274 from Sunset Imports. I don't remember exactly how that price compared to the competition at the time. My main goal was to avoid having to have the DME flashed. BTW, it was a piece of cake to install.

FWIW I also replaced all four O2 sensors at the same time and the car has never run better, even a year later...

Two weeks ago I had to replace my MAF in my 2000 986S. I got the MAF for around $260 from Suncoast. The old PN was 996 606 124 00; the new PN is 986 606 125 01. I suggest that you install the part and see how the car runs - it may run fine. I had an independent shop reflash my computer, but sometime during the process a "000000" code came back...neither of us is sure if the reflash went through, but the car runs better than ever. I wish I had tried it out before taking it in...might have saved myself a bit of cash.
BTW, there is a Porsche Technical Service Bulletin for the old part and for the update.
