Engine Fan - Is This Normal?

Quick question. After a drive, I parked my car. When I left the key in with the motor off (key=turned, so electonics were on) I heard a powerful fan. I went outside the car and felt a strong intake of air from one of the side vents - only one. (passenger side). Is this normal?

Yep, normal. It's a fan to draw air into the engine compartment if it reaches a certain temp in there... some one else will chime in here with the specifics.

But is it normal for the intake to come through only one of the side-vents and not both?

Left side is the intake for the engine, right side for the engine fan.
