Built my OWN subwoofer!
Hello everyone! I have been MIA building my own sub! It sounds grrrreat! BUT... it is not a perfect fit. I did not take dimensions down because I knew this was a trial run. My next project will be making one out of fiberglass.
Some specs are: 1 Alpine V12 5-channel amp (50W/channel RMS + 200W/sub RMS)~ $300 2 High to Low converters ~$30 1 3/4" particle board ~ $20 Bag of screws ~$4 3 sq yds of black carpet ~ $10 Power wires + RCA cables ~ $25 1 8" dual voice coil Subwoofer (200W RMS)~ $150 4 hours to build the sub 4 hours to wire it up ~ $75 (I had it done at a local shop) Like I said, it's not a perfect fit and I still need to get a grill to protect it from being kicked in, but it sounds great and was a lot of fun building! I am looking to experiment with fiberglass next. I'll post pics of those when I get to it. Good enough for now! Hehe... :D  http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...tan/Sub003.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...tan/Sub005.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...tan/Sub007.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...tan/Sub016.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...tan/Sub022.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...n/Sub019-1.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...tan/Sub020.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...tan/Sub021.jpg |
It may be my imagination, but I think that faceless guy sitting in the chair is, incomprehensibly to me, getting aroused by your sound system enhancement efforts.
I bet it sounds nice, but I'd be concerned about limited leg-room fatigue. (If I were a passenger, that is. I guess that's a perk about being the owner of a Boxster--you're rarely a passengers in your own car!) Nice work. |

What brand/model of sub is that? I dont recognize it at all. As to your box, did you do any calculations as to box volume per the Q factor of that sub?
While I'm sure it was a fun project to build, IMO, I wouldnt want that sitting in my passenger footwell looking very much like an "afterthought" and taking up considerable footwell space. You are likely oversize for that driver from the rough looks of it, and while it appears you are handy, the end result is certainly not of professional level. Best of luck cleaning things up and doing better in fiberglass! Patrick |

Well Patrick, I'm certainly NOT a professional. It was just a fun way to kill a Sunday afternoon. :D As far as the brand and specs, the minimum requirement of the Earthquake dual voice coil 8" sub was a half cubic foot, which my sub barely met. Hehe... I'm going to try fiberglass next time. And yes, it is a little cramped for the passenger, but really, I don't have many passengers and my gf is short so that's not a problem, either way, it's temporary, and sounds great! |
so that's what you've been doing, eh? I thought you're enjoying your newly installed sway/arm bars..but looking at the pix (like what everyone else was saying)...who ever sitting in the chair is growing an arm...hahahahahahaha!
Good job, though! |
