Yeh, that's was my old car that got stollen. Not that one in the video, but same car. SRT-4 has a turbo which they don't mention in the video. I like my Boxster as far as looks go and the SRT-4 only got me into trouble street racing. I had spent ALLOT of money fixing it up and then someone stole it. 48hrs later they found it stripped to the frame. They even set the interior on fire. Cops said they do that sometimes to burn thier finger prints off anything they touch. My insurance covered me, but they grilled me with a million questions until they cut the check for what the car was worth. I kept all of my receits from every thing I ever bought for that car and they gave me an additional halft of what I put into the car. I don't miss the 4-doors on a sports car, but do miss the turbo power.

Exactly. That's what everyone else said. I always said go ahead and laugh, just try to pass me up, they never could. I think the stupid name NEON is what ruins it. That's why dodge tried to change the name and stopped calling it that and gave it the SRT-4 badge. Then the turbo PT Cruiser came out and that ruined it for me because everyone knew it was the same engine as the SRT-4. Hell, even the chassi and frame are the same. Only the body is different. It was the 4-Doors that ruined it for me.

hahaha... the SRT4? A sports car? I wouldn't give it that much credit. No offense to you, but it's a Neon that has 'factory aftermarket' stuff in it. It's a souped up econobox.
I always say the SRT4 is proof that you can't polish a turd, but apparently, you can make it go REAL FAST!
Yeah, they're fast, faster than my Boxster. Not sure if they handle worth a damn compared to a Box.. .but they are still a Neon.

Everytime I see one while driving in my German cruiser (1997 S500 w/armor package) I just want to ram into it and see what happens.
Its always some punk kid with spikey hair revving their engine with an exhaust that sounds like fart at anything that passes them by.
Oh and they sure run quick when they see 7k+lbs steering right towards them! :troll:

I dunno I drove my lady friend's Neon frequently and I'd sooner drive that then a corolla. Its actually a very nice car for a commuter. The new Honda Civic is nice too.
And although the Neon is not a sports car, it has had some very respectable results at the National level in SCCA Solo. I think the founder of EVO Autocross schools is a woman from Florida that beat allot of guys in her neon.
p.s.
When will the spikey hair fad ever end? Its like die already... it had to be at least 7 years ago that I first saw a pack of "Growing up Gotti" types at a PVD show here in NYC.
note the waxed eyebrows and lip gloss (it's David Bowie all over again).

I think the right driver and tires on the Porsche and the srt4 would not stand a chance. I love the commentator stating that the engine in the front of the srt pushing the front wheels down give it an advantage in skidpad type cornering, if anything the front drive is a minus. lol.

Ever hear of the ACR? Dodge had an ACR Neon that did very well at autocross events, finishing in the top 3 for its class for many years. That was when It was a 2-door. There was even a yearly charity event race shown on TV with celebrities racing these "Neons" with sport adjustable Koni suspension. Ever heard of Skip Barber Driving School? They use Neons still today to train thier drivers. It may not look it, but it IS considered a sports car by track enthusiasts. I still love my Porsche more.

Thought you might wnat to hear from someone who has owned both.
Well as I mentioned in the tittle, I once owned an SRT-4 and now own a Boxster My SRT-4 had some goodies to include a wet nitrous system, it did 13.5 in the quarter mile off the bottle at close to 4,000 feet elevation. Might have done 12 something with the bottle but i never got to time it. Now my boxster has a 3.6 997 engine ecu , headers, b&m short throw shifter, and full suspension. Aside from the aesthetic stuff. Yet still my SRT-4 was faster without the juice. I am aware that I am talking about strait line racing which is not what the Porsche is built for. Which is exactly the reason I own one. I want to be able to drive fast around the curves also. I know you can mod an SRT-4 to be good in the twisty, but then it's just out of it's element. Also I would be lying if I said I didn't get tired of guys in 350z's RX-8 Evo's and STI's telling me "yeah it's faster but it's still a neon" Besides the Sexy look of the car and the way it's built doesn't hurt either. I don't make more money now than I did when i had the SRT-4 I did the modesty thing for a while and got my kicks now it's my turn in the sun

boxsterz,
That is EXACTLY what happened to me yesterday, hence my question...
Ever since I got the Boxster and started autocrossing, I have gained a new found respect for a lot of cars that I never really used to consider.
The only vehicles I hate are minivans, everything else is OK in my book.

Are you saying that you have a 2.5 or 2.7L engine with the ECU from a 997? Why?

xxxalexxxx boxsterz farewellregret NickCats - Exactly what I'm talking about. It's natural to slam people for what they drive, I always pick on ford people that I race with at the track, and they pick on me back It's all in good fun, and at the end of the day/run, the truth comes out. It's never the truly mean spirited, uneducated attacks I often see here.
djomlas - They bought me mine last November, after I got sick of driving around the 2005 lexus that they bought for me the year before. Of course, I had a big argument with them because they wanted to buy me an automatic and I wanted a standard... And yes, that was all sarcasm for those with broken sarcasm detectors.

yeah but the problem is that MAJORITY of us here bought these cars for ourselves, not our parent buying them for us.
so i don't see the correlation at all with you saying that our mommy and daddy bought them for us to look down upon the unwashed masses.....

Oh man, this thread is hilarious.
I get people trying to tell me how much faster their cars are than mine. I just smile and say, "yeah you're probably right." I have fun driving my BoxS and I love the way it looks and drives. That's all that matters.
There are cheaper cars out there than can outrun our Boxes. Big deal.
Oh and Wonko, the majority of us pay for our own toys.

So you have a 330hp (plus or minus) engine in a 2800 pound mid engine car and it can't beat 13.5 sec 1/4 mile? Are you sure about that?

That's what I'm saying, could be off but it just doesn't feel as fast. It did however take out one of the new twin turbo 3 series, but not by much.
