Whooohoo, what a day
I did my first AX this weekend and i have no words to describe it except it's awesome Now I know how you guys feel when you talk about AX'ing!
I want to thank, ChrisZang for making me feel like everything will be ok for the first timer and also for letting me borrow his helmet..and good thing I changed my mind about the camera mount coz' after seeing on how you mount it (removing the paddding) I almost have an heart attack..hehehehehehe!
Also, I want to say thanks to Terry my instructor...Im telling you, the first time he took me for a ride..it was a blast, he help me build up my confidence and asking me on how am i doing eveytime he get a chance when I was doing a solo drive..Terry and I saw on the board that my first run was 113sec and on my fifth was 100sec..I think thats not bad at all, but not comparing to other with 49 or 54sec
And I finish the end of the day by taking the whole familia to watch Shrek 3..now that movie is F U N N Y! and went to dinner after @ Bucca
I know, I said I got no words to describe it..here's some pix also the video link @ the bottom

Nice! I'm gonna have to try out an AX sometime. I figure I'll get around to joining the local PCA chapter and see if I can get to one with those guys. Looks like you had a blast!
BTW the framerate of the video camera made some weird mojo... it looks like your wheels aren't turning!

@unkle,
Sounds and looks like you had a blast! Auto-X is something that has really been crossing my mind lately, perhaps I should start attending(not participating) some events. Is that at Candlestick? How often do you guys have Auto-X at Candlestick?

We had our first PCA autocross last weekend. I'm running with the SCCA on Memorial Day at a brand new site. Should be fun!
And yes, it's addictive.

What no rollbar extender? My local PCA chapter requires that you have a rollbar extender if the top of your helmet is not below the level of the stock rollbar. My head without a helmet is about even to slightly above the stock rollbar. That's what has delayed me from doing my first Auto-X or Track event. I have to spring for the $700 roll bar extender.

dude that blows.
we were jsut laughing at the last autoX that my head sticks out like a whole foot or so above the rollbar with th helmet on. so did Nicks head, and Sammys head.
but you cant drive w the top down, or have a passinger. <- now that is retarted

Hmmm, this is very tempting. I will try to do what I can though, between my brother(8th grade) and sister's(High School) graduating,my cruise to Mexico and Summer School starting up I will pretty busy in the next month or two. What are the dates and what do I have to bring/do to be able to attend these events?

Glad you guys/gals are having fun. This is what these cars are made for. I couldn't go this week... life got in the way. I am getting an itchy right foot just thinking about it. Time for a little canyon carving.

blink..here's the date for the next 2 AX that Im going to, Jun 10 @ altamont Speedway (sun) & June 16 @ Candlestick (Sat.) . What i brought with me is a coooler with m lunch and lot's of water, sunblock, chapstick and folding chair plus $30 for PCA member..not sure how much for non-pca.
I have a total of 10 runs and for $30..it's worth it
dude, my car is bone stock and I made it and I had a blast .
I was in the second group, so while our group are waiting, we have an assigned location to call in how many pylon/cones got knocked out by the car (1 cone/pylon= 1 second to their time)...

You are very very welcome! I love autocross soooo much, so anything I can do to help other people enjoy the addiction is worth it!
And don't feel bad about spinning...I did it like 5-6 times before I finally learned where the limit was between pushing it and spinning

well if you had fun you should give this a shot when it comes to your town.
(see link below)
I did Phase I and II. A very interesting couple of days. On the phase II day it was raining like a monsoon and I was sure we were going to call it off. Nope! we were driving full song with the wipers going full blast. *CRAZY* Talk about learning the limits of your tires on wet traction.
Then in afternoon session the sun came out blazing.
SOmetimes I think if your average Autox club charged more and gave you more laps, I would autocross a bit more. I understand the need to max out club membership but some events I have been to just have just too many cars. To spend six seven hours of a day off and get less than 9 laps is not time effective for me. That's why I like the PCA events, although not always so competitive the turn out is usually the smallest of the half dozen clubs here in the tri-state.
http://autocross.com/evolution/modules/news/
here's a couple of tips that helped me
1-drive with your shoulders not your wrists. (this is true in karting, autox, all ms's)
2-try to keep your shoulders pinned to the seat back, don't sway your upper body left to right like your on a boat. Keep the torso straight and up.
3-keep hands glued at 9 and 3 o'clock. Place a yellow piece of tape at 12 o'clock on your steering wheel so that you notice when you are shuffling(taking hands of 9 and 3). This becomes a habit a find myself doing on the streets.
4- lean your head in the direction of the cone you are approaching. Cone is pointing left, lean your head to the left. do this religiously and you will get in the all important habit of looking 2 gates ahead.
5-draw the course on a piece of paper and stick it your center console. You can study it while you are waiting.
6- try the CG-Lock for your seatbelt, a good investment for $20 buck or whatever.

Ha! looks like the price went up from when I bought it!
keeps the lap portion of your seat belt from slack retracting so you are pinned into the seat bottom (no sliding).
