Rallye 1 - Wooden It Be Nice Rallye

Any Chicago PCA members attending this Sunday ?

Registration 9:30 am
Drivers Meeting 10:30 am
First Car Off 11:01 am

May 20, 2007

Rallye Car Fee $25.00

Meeting Point: McLean Blvd. and Big Timber Road in Elgin

Directions: From I90 west take the Rte. 31 exit south to Big Timber Road and then turn west for approximately 1/2 mile.

The start point of the rallye is the parking lot for a closed Eagle Grocery Store just east of the intersection of Big Timber Road and McLean Blvd. in the northwest part of Elgin. There is a sign identifying First Community Bank at the entrance to the parking lot. There is a restaurant (Spring Garden) at the north end of the parking lot on McLean Blvd. for anyone who wishes to come early for breakfast.

This rallye will take you into Ogle County to the home and workshop of internationally renowned sculptor George N. Kapotas who will show you his magnificent sculptures and carvings from wood and stone. His display is spread across 7 plus acres and is magnificently landscaped by George and his wife, Jeanne. They welcome a $3.00 donation but it is not required. George is a remarkable man and he is busy 6 days a week working on his carvings.

This rallye will be over the roads of Kane, DeKalb, Winnebago and Ogle Counties, all new roads to us. The end point will be at Hooper’s Sports Bar and Grille, 975 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin, IL 60123. This is just south of Big Timber Road. Therefore, the start and the end point of this rallye are within walking distance or about 2 blocks apart.

Had a great time at the rally today...

Started raining when we left the house ( just enough to get the car dirty  ) but turned out to be a nice day after all, with some wonderful roads in the Western suburbs.

For those interested, here's some pictures :

I thought we did really well but somehow we came in last place

This was only our third event so we are still learning...

Nonetheless we had a great time and met some great people and got a chance to drive on some great roads.

All in all, a great way to spend a Sunday :)

DJ, PM me your cell phone # and I'll give you a call next time !

Happy Monday...

Nick
