How do You Leave Some Rubber
 

OK. My neighbor has this automatic power mustang and likes to punch the gas to make the tires squeel. It impresses the kids. While I was pulling out of my driveway, he yelled to me to leave a patch. I kinda wanted to do it. I gave it a half-assed try but was not successsful. Is there a secret to making the wheels burn some mean rubber when pulling out in a BoxsterS.

Push in clutch, rev to 5k, continue to hold gas and completely release the clutch.

I don't recommend doing this frequently...or really at all.

For a start, turn off your PCM or traction control...other than that, pretend you're a 17 year old borrowing dad's car for the first time, and have no idea how far the pedal can REALLY go.

Its also a lot easier in a manual than with tiptronic...I'm sure you'll figure it out. :)

Trust me, you don't want to do it. To squeel the tires means that you've lost control of the car. I used to do it with my muscle car, and ran through 2 sets of tires in 2 years :)

The more efficient way of driving (and faster off the line) is NOT to lay rubber. But if you feel you must, just punch the gas, and let go of the clutch. You'll put some rubber on the ground. :)

Of course, I'm assuming you have a manual and not an automatic. If you have an auto, you have to put it into N, then punch the gas, and then put it into 1st without letting off the gas.

Does horrible things to your transmission.

Call your Porsche dealer and price a new clutch plus installation, then go price some tires.

Wouldn't a trip to Hawaii be more fun that buying new tires and replacing a clutch all so you can show some meathead that your car has go.

Take it to the autox if you really want to show him up.

I tried laying a patch once or twice in mine just for kicks and all I got got was a crapload of wheelhop. Nothing like the 25ft strips i've seen my dads 66 stingray lay down:) I'm fine with that though because the boxster is not all about "roasting the tires." Besides, peeling aout gets old real fast.
