Navigational Radio any feedback

Been thinking of getting the following radio replacing the Porsche 220 the car has. AVIC-N1 In-Dash DVD Multimedia AV Navigation Receiver.
Does anyone know anything about this particular unit? The AVIC-N1 was introduced to the market May costing ~ 1700 -1900 plus installation. It has many interestingl features and will fit in the Boxster.

I have a friend that installed the AVIC-N1 in his Tahoe. Thus far he has really enjoyed it, only has two complaints.

1. The map disk that comes with the unit was produced in 2003 and the next disc is not scheduled to be released until 2005.

2. Although the system comes with 64MB of ram to be used in memorizing you route so you can take the NAV disc out to play CD's etc. he found that it really wasn't enough. He ended up buy a CD changer so he just leave the NAV disc in all the time.

If you decide to go forward with this please send me / post pics of the finished installation.

If you are really looking into getting a Nav system I would suggest at least looking at the small hand held ones. I have a Garmin GPS V and have found that it has 90% of the functionality of the big dash mounted ones, however it costs way less, can be put in your pocket and requires zero installation. I take it everywhere I go, especially on business trips when I have to get a rental car and don't know anything about the city I am visiting.

I just installed a Traffic Pro. Although this doens't have a full color map to look at, the voice directions are very good. And the little arrows on the display is surprising helpful.

For under $500 and looks absolutely stock, it was a great option for me.
